Does Snail Slime Really Make You Beautiful?
Have you ever imagined that snails would help you turn back the ageing clock? Well, it’s not exactly the creatures themselves – it’s the slime they secrete that really matters. Snail slime beauty products are all the rage right now in Asia. When it comes to beauty and fighting ageing, I will try nearly anything but this facial treatment really tested me. A few months ago one of my students, Katie, was looking for someone to model for her snail facial for her additional subject for her CIDESCO Diploma, she had trouble getting a model! I couldn’t say no, could I? Would you?
When snails are agitated, they release a thick slime laced with nutrients that are thought to hydrate, moisturize, stimulate new cells and can help with acne. Snail slime or if you want to sound more professional, snail filtrate is packed with nutrients such as hyaluronic acid, glycoprotein, proteoglycans, and antimicrobial and copper peptides, all of which are commonly used in beauty products and proven to be beneficial for the skin. These elements help to protect the snail’s skin from damage, infection, dryness and UV rays.
I can’t say I have a fear of snails. It’s just wasn’t something that I’d ever considered crawling all over my face! If it was snakes or worms, I would have ran a mile! I know that sound ridiculous, because when you think about it snails look just like fat worms with a cap on!
Katie gently agitated the snails by rubbing the snails so they would come out of their shells. She them put them on my face. As you can see from the video, the snails leave slime behind on the skin, and the slime contains all the beneficial nutrients to give you all anti-ageing and anti-inflammatory benefits. I know a lot of people are probably looking at the video and saying, how is she just lying there? Looking back, I do look very calm! I won’t be rushing back to have the snail facial anytime soon but I’m glad I did it. I don’t know if it helped my skin, but if the Koreans are all using snail cream it must be working. I’m just really proud of myself for not jumping off the treatment couch as soon as the first snail hit my face!
Snail facials have been a trend in Korea for a few years, but it is snail creams that are currently the big trend. According to research, the Korean’s favourite’s snail cream is Mizon Black Snail All-In-One Cream which consists of 90% black snail mucous.
Some students you will never forget! One thing is for sure, Katie I will never forget you and your snails!
